Episode 1

UNDER THE SUMMITS

The Portuguese interior mountain ranges are biogeographic borders that separate the bare rocky peaks from the dense forests and fertile valleys. From the peaks of Peneda-Gerés and Serra da Estrela, where numerous rivers originate, to their final destination in the ocean.

The numerous water courses that cross the Portuguese territory define the character of its wild inhabitants.

To the south of the Tagus River, cork oak and holm oak forests predominate. To the north of the Duero River the deciduous forest prevails.

Wolves, lynxes, owls and eagles live in these unique places in the world.
